Favorite books of 2018 so far

I was just checking Goodreads and noticed that I’m already at 200% of my reading goal for 2018, even though there’s still so much time left in the year. Discovering that I could get audiobooks from my library was a real game-changer in terms of how much reading I get done. I went from reading one book every week or two, to reading two or three books every week.

Since we’re a little halfway over the year, I thought I would share the five best books I’ve read so far this year, in no particular order.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

I finally got around to reading Jurassic Park this year. I was always a fan of the movie, but somehow never actually read the book. I’m so glad I finally got around to it, because it was really good. It’s a lot different from the movie, but in a good way. I still think both are great, but the book gives so much more detail and backstory to the park than the movie does.

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

This one is another book that’s been out for a while that I was reading for the first time. Everything about it is great. The writing, the characters, the setting, the plot, everything. I’m definitely going to be reading more of Murakami’s work in the near future.

The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women by Kate Moore

Yes, a non-fiction book is in my top 5. Don’t be fooled though! It’s a non-fiction, but the way Kate Moore writes, it feels more like a story than a dry retelling of facts. I became so invested in the lives of these women that I just could not put it down and felt such a strong desire to learn more about these amazing women.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

This was another book I just could not put down. I’m not super into thrillers, but Gone Girl was definitely an exception to the rule. I think I read it in a few evenings because I just had to know what was next.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Okay, so technically I’m still reading this one, but it’s SO good already. I’m a little over halfway done so I’m pretty confident that I can put this on the list, but here’s hoping the second half isn’t suddenly bad.
