Top 5 books that made me laugh

Today is my first day back to work after a 10 day vacation, so the theme for this week’s Top 5 Tuesday, which is hosted by Bionic Book Worm, is perfect for me today. Today’s topic is top 5 books that made me laugh, which I will definitely need to think about as I get back into the swing of work again.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman
The Princess Bride is one of my all-time favorite books (and movies), so of course it had to make it on this list. This book has two main story lines: the actual story of Princess Buttercup and Wesley, and the author William Goldman trying to condense the story of The Princess Bride by S. Morgenstern down into a more enjoyable story. It’s basically a story within a story, if you will. Just like the movie, the book provides a lot of laughs, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The Shambling Guide to New York City by Mur Lafferty
I read this for a book club a few months ago and immediately fell in love with it. It’s such a fun take on the urban fantasy genre, and reminded me of The Dresden Files in a lot of ways.

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore
Lamb tells the tale of Jesus’s life, but from the perspective of Jesus’s best friend, Biff. I was never a super religious person, so I probably missed out on a lot of the funny jokes, just because I don’t know the origins of the stories in here, but still a fun read.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I don’t even have much to say on this one because I feel like most people have read this by some point. But I couldn’t not include Hitchhiker’s Guide on a humor list.

The Martian by Andy Weir
Andy Weir perfectly walks the line between humor and suspense. One moment, Mark Watney is joking about his unfortunate situation of being left behind on Mars, and the next, he’s fighting for survival. Also, the book was way better than the movie, so if you’ve seen that and haven’t read the book, definitely give it a read.

You are the second one to mention Lamb by Christopher Moore and I reckon that it seems like a great one (sarcasm is my favorite weapon and this book seems full of it!)

The Martian was such a great book and film. I laughed. I cried. I stayed up all night reading it and had a Martian induced work headache the next morning 🙂 I will check out The Shambling Guide to New York City looks like a lot of fun!
